Hotels prepare to receive displaced settlers

STORYLINE:

Young Israelis opposed to the Gaza withdrawal gathered at Sderot on Thursday to show solidarity with the evicted settlers from the settlement of Neve Dekalim.

They carried placards and sung songs, crowding round each settler''s car to offer comfort and support to the despondent families.

The former Neve Dekalim settlers were all headed for the Ashkelon Army Rest and Recreation Centre which overlooks a beach on to the Mediterranean Sea.

There to meet them were government officials and more volunteers who handed out cake and support.

The Neve Dekalim residents were due to stay in the temporary accommodation until the SELA (Government organisation in charge of evicted settlers'' social welfare) could provide them with houses.

Some were extremely unhappy with the Ashkelon Rest home.

Sigal Sofer, the 67th family settler to arrive, complained bitterly about her eviction.
