The five-star Hotel Amigo has a rich historical pedigree spread over 500 years. The historic property used to be a prison in the 1500s. But hey, don't judge just yet. This offering from Rocco Forte Hotels is a combination of award-winning service and a glimpse into Brussels' rich history.

Brussels is well-known for its two culinary delights that include beer and chocolate. But the historic city extends beyond these two experiences. There is so much else to do. Along with numerous visit-worthy arts and cultural sites, it also features exquisite buildings and a picturesque square – the Grand Place.

Just around the corner from this square, which has been voted multiple times as the most beautiful square in Europe, it is one of Brussels' famous luxury hotels, Hotel Amigo.

It all began in 1522 when the property was sold to the city. It used the existing structure as a prison and continued to do so for a long period. As a result, many believe that its name originated from here. In the 16th Century, some Spanish soldiers misunderstood the word "vrunt" (prison) for vriend, meaning friend, and started calling Amigo, Spanish, for a friend.

Later in the 1950s, the Blanton Family converted the building into a hotel to welcome royalty and visiting nobilities worldwide who came to Brussels for the World's Fair in 1958.

Hotel Amigo continued as a rather uninspired accommodation until the year 2000 when Rocco Forte Hotels acquired and carefully refurbished it to what it is today. With an extensive renovation, designer Olga Polizzi restored the building to its former glory. Her team worked tirelessly to protect its artistic, cultural heritage and enabled Hotel Amigo to reclaim its spot as Brussels' best luxury hotel.

The hotel boasts a great location in Brussels' heart, which is the first thing that captivates tourists' attention. With Brussels Airport about twenty minutes drive away, this business hotel serves as a home away from home for many business travelers.

Moreover, it offers numerous opportunities to explore the city as the area has great public transportation facilities. For example, you can take a trip to the antique district of le Sablon and its popular Notre-Dame du Sablon church from the Central train station. Besides, you can take a taxi from the hotel forecourt to see the many museums and art galleries. There is also the Royal Palace of Brussels and many business centers around the city.

The area is a financial district in the center of Brussels. The main tourist attractions on this area's cobbled streets include a traditional-style Belgian cafe opposite the hotel, the Museum of Cocoa and Chocolate merely a block away, and Manneken Pis fountain, a two-minute walk.

Additionally, the resort provides a stylish and central base from where you can explore Brussels' historical heritage along with a modern twist.

Looking at the building from outside, you will never assume that it used to be a jail. Instead, at this Spanish Renaissance yet upscale establishment, you will be ushered inside by an immaculately dressed - top-hat-and-tailed – doormen.

The interior is unfussy, and all about modern-day luxury and convenience - this the guests' living experience is entirely different. Olga Polizzi did justice to her name in this respect. Like local fittings, René Magritte prints, and fixtures, her close attention to details set Amigo apart from other international hotels.

A room tour and review of a Superior room at the Hotel Duke's Palace is Bruges, Belgium.

The Hotel Duke's Palace is one of the few 5-star hotels located within the walls of the old-town, and it is probably the best place to stay in Bruges. Duke's Palace is centrally located only a short walk from many of the popular sites to see in Brugge and offers on-site parking if you are arriving by car (although finding it can be a bit of a trick as you navigate the ancient cobble-stone streets).

Our stay at the Hotel Duke's Palace was incredibly comfortable and we would joyfully stay there again. All of the staff were kind, attentive, and very helpful. They offered great recommendations on the sites to see, including some local favorites (Olivier's Chocolate is a must), and were very skilled at their jobs.

We stayed in a Supreme Double room with a city view. This was one of their standard rooms and it was well appointed. The king sized bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean and had high-end finishes, and the view was interesting. In retrospect, I would probably opt to save a few dollars and choose a garden view room next time since the Hotel Duke's Palace courtyard was so beautiful.

The hotel itself was a very interesting property. Not much of the original palace remained (I believe only the turret in front is original), but the entire building was very opulent. Compared to the many other hotels in the old town that simply had a small lobby at street level, we enjoyed having the space, amenities, and energy of the larger property.

In addition to the Hotel Duke's Palace's location, the breakfast daily breakfast they served is another prime reason to stay there. While it was buffet style, it was one of the best hotel breakfasts we've had. There was everything from fresh fruit, to eggs and bacon, to a Belgium waffle station complete gigantic blocks of Belgium chocolate. We definitely felt like we started our day right after a large breakfast, and the fact that it was included with our room fee was an added bonus!

On our next visit to Bruges we'll definitely be checking into the Hotel Duke's Palace again.

Le Plaza Hotel, or can be known as Hotel Le Plaza is one of the last few independent Hotels in Brussels and certainly one of the oldest, opening to guests in 1930. Located next to Rue Neuve Shopping Street and just a 10 minute walk from the Grand-Place. The nearest Metro station is just a few minutes walk - Rogier. Full details of this are all within my video.

Hi!
I spent two nights at the Hotel Aqua in Brussels. Follow me around in this quite central located hotel. It is a little hidden but therefore it is silent. All you need is very close even a main shopping road with all kind of stores including food. The rooms are clean and have all the standard you need. Staff is friendly and a parking garage is under the hotel for a reduced price. The breakfast buffet is ok depending on what you like and how many guests are there. The fitness room is ...a fitness room.
One unique feature of this place is the blue wooden "art" structure winding through the place at some places.


Video is filmed with GoPro7 with a minor colorcorrection.
All of the above is my personal opinion. I suggest to check out other reviews as well to get another perspective on the hotel.
