We visited the Bakotu hotel in Februay 2024. We had an amazng time in Gambia. It was our first time and we will definitely visit the Gambia again. We realky enjoyed our stay at the Bakotu hotel in Kotu. It is a peaceful place in a nice neighborhood. Just a 5 minute walk fromt the beach .

STORYLINE
Pre-Christmas festivities began on Sunday for Christian worshippers in the West Bank, but the latest round of violence between Israel and Gaza has affected the number of tourists visiting the area for the festive season.
Every year on the last Sunday of November, a special mass is held at the Church of the Nativity in the West Bank town of Bethlehem.
The church was packed this year with dozens of Catholic worshippers.
But as the Christmas season approaches, the recent period of fighting between Israel and the Gaza Strip has had an impact on the West Bank too.
Jalil Alias, the Palestinian owner of two hotels in Bethlehem, said his guests had been scared watching news of the fighting on television.
Elias said that usually during this season, coming up to Christmas, his hotels take many tourist bookings, but since the fighting broke out, he has been getting cancellations.
"About 25 percent of the tourists for the future cancelled," he said. "They are afraid to come."
The fighting ended when a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was agreed on Wednesday.
Over eight days, Israel's aircraft carried out some 1,500 strikes on what its military described as Hamas-linked targets, while Gaza fighters fired roughly the same number of rockets at Israel.
The fighting killed 166 Palestinians, including scores of civilians, and six Israelis.

A luxurious new resort has opened in the Gaza Strip.
As a novelty in the region, it is drawing a large number of visitors who are all looking to escape the grim reality of the Palestinian territories.

STORY-LINE:
This seaside resort could be anywhere in the world - but you probably wouldn't guess it's in Gaza.
There are more than 150 rooms, several swimming pools, green lawns dotted with palm trees, childrens' playgrounds and a private beach.
The Blue Beach Resort is the first luxurious seaside vacation spot in the Gaza Strip.
It occupies five acres on the Mediterranean coast and also has a restaurant and a cafe shop.
Children play in the pool and families relax on sun lounges nearby.
This is a far-cry from the hustle and bustle of the war-torn Gaza Strip.
Visitor Rawan Hassan is here with her family.
The women are sitting by the pool smoking shisha pipes, feeling immune from the eyes of Hamas' detectives who occasionally prevent serving shisha to women at public beach or cafes.
She says it is difficult to find a relaxing place in Gaza City, so they've come to the resort.
"It's difficult to go to public places because it's full of people. This place provides privacy and you know who is with you. It is really good to be in Gaza (in a place like the Blue Beach resort) for the first time," says Hassan.
Tables are neatly laid out on the beach as a local music band prepares an outdoor stage for a party.
The resort has opened this summer at odds - but also in defiance - of all surrounding challenges caused by an Israeli blockade and last year's war.
Israel still restricts the flow of materials to rebuild some 12,000 houses that were destroyed in 50 days of fighting last summer.
Because of these restrictions it's taken seven years to build this resort.
But now the holiday-makers are coming.
One is father of three, Said Al-Madhoun. He says he wants his children to escape the grim reality of Gaza for at least a day.
"We are coming to spend a day here at the Blue Beach to let the children change the mood of the tense daily life atmosphere. We don't have resorts. I think Blue Beach resort is the first of its kind in Gaza and has no competitor. We want to try and see how it is."
Rooms here will set you back 100-120 US dollars for standard accommodation and suites cost up to 160 US dollars.
The resort has a smart lobby area and a bar with blue lighting reflecting on the empty glasses.
However, there are no drinks yet on the bar and there will be no alcohol at all, in line with Hamas' policies that bans alcohol.
Back by the pool and bar staff are busy preparing hot drinks for the guests.
Even though the Israeli border is visible from the beach, there's a real sense of escapism here.

The Gaza Strip is unlikely to feature on a list of the Mediterranean's top holiday resorts, but that may change if the Palestinian Authority gets its way.

New resources are being pushed into hotels and tourist sites in the hope that the region can win a bigger slice of the lucrative holiday market.

Israel currently earns around 3 billion dollars a year from the holiday trade and the Palestinians now hope that they can boost the flow of tourist dollars.

But the years of negative images from the region are proving a tough barrier in the fight to lure new visitors to the region.

Its a side of the Gaza Strip that rarely makes it onto the world's television screens.

Several new luxury hotels have sprung up on the Mediterranean coast and many others are under construction.

But many of the businessmen investing in the tiny holiday industry are finding it a tough marketplace.

Basel Elaiweh, owner of the Windmill Hotel in Gaza City, said that when he built his hotel in Gaza City he was hoping the strip would command a spot on the tourist map.

But two years later Elaiweh says he has virtually no tourists checking into his plush hotel.

He blames the lack of visitors on the stumbling Middle East Peace Process.

"The main reason that encouraged us to start this hotel and put our cash is because we were hoping the peace process will go on, nothing has happened so far, what we see is more complications and regulations that cut people in the West Bank from people in Gaza and I do not think we can live on that."

But hotels and restaurants are not the only thing that can encourage tourists in Gaza Strip.

In addition to the few historical mosques and churches, an impressive archaeological site has been discovered in the strip.

Archaeologists are currently looking after a vast area of well-preserved mosaic pavements which once graced the floor of a Byzantine church.

This wonderful discovery contains complex patterns and decorations and an array of Greek inscriptions.

The Palestinian Ministry of Tourism is trying to encourage foreign countries to help them excavate more places and to preserve the ones already discovered.

Abdullah Hijazi, Deputy Minister of Tourism believes that the Palestinian Authority has made all efforts to encourage tourism in its areas.

Hijazi says the deadlock in the Peace Process is making it impossible for the Palestinians to encourage visitors to the area.

Gaza City's beach, is lined by hotels, a resort with an Olympic-size pool and restaurants serving food unknown here just a few years ago: pizza and hamburgers, Chinese, Indian and Italian dishes.

But tourists may only feel further tempted to the Palestinian region if they are able to see the Middle East Peace Process move forward.

Israel vs Palestine: The Regina Goren Hotel in Israel's Ashkelon, where the NDTV team had been staying, was hit by rockets last evening. STORYLINE:

Young Israelis opposed to the Gaza withdrawal gathered at Sderot on Thursday to show solidarity with the evicted settlers from the settlement of Neve Dekalim.

They carried placards and sung songs, crowding round each settler''s car to offer comfort and support to the despondent families.

The former Neve Dekalim settlers were all headed for the Ashkelon Army Rest and Recreation Centre which overlooks a beach on to the Mediterranean Sea.

There to meet them were government officials and more volunteers who handed out cake and support.

The Neve Dekalim residents were due to stay in the temporary accommodation until the SELA (Government organisation in charge of evicted settlers'' social welfare) could provide them with houses.

Some were extremely unhappy with the Ashkelon Rest home.

Sigal Sofer, the 67th family settler to arrive, complained bitterly about her eviction.

So this week Donald Trump announced that he was suspending enforcement, prosecution and investigations. Before their meeting, Donald Trump had been pressuring the King of Jordan to accept as many as he could.

The Palestinians that Donald Trump wants to forcibly relocate from the Gaza Strip so that he can build luxury hotels. And yes, he reaffirmed during that meeting that we're just gonna take the land, get the people off of it, and build luxury hotels and saying that with the King of Jordan, there just hours after you had gotten rid of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, kind of lets us know that you may be bribing this man to take the Palestinians in exchange for getting some property in the Gaza Strip. Here's what Trump said. Well, first he was asked by a reporter at this meeting that happened on Tuesday, like, how's America gonna pay for the Gaza strip? Like, how are we gonna buy it? And then Trump said, we're not going to buy anything. We're going to have it. We're going to keep it, and we're going to make sure that there's going to be peace, and there's not going to be any problem and nobody's going to question it again. The fricking king of Jordan is right next to him as he saying this, and we're going to run it very properly. And eventually we'll have economic development at a very large scale, maybe the largest scale on that site, and we'll have lots of good things built there, including hotels and office buildings and housings and other things. Uh, but it's going to be a wonderful thing. It's going to be wonderful for the Middle East.

He was then asked under what authority does the US have to just take it? And he responded by saying, America's authority. So here's what I think is gonna play itself out. Donald Trump and the Trump organization, they're in the real estate business. So anytime you hear Donald Trump, oh, there's going to be economic development in an area he's talking about for him, but he's not the only one in the game, right? I mean, hell, you could have casino moguls who say, wait a minute, may, maybe the Gaza Strip becomes kinda like the

Las Vegas strip. You have other developers, resorts help. Maybe Disney is like, how about Disney, Gaza? So all of these individuals and these companies right now, including the president himself, know that in order to do that, you know, in order to take the land, you gotta get the millions of people off of it. Well, all the countries, including Jordan, have been like, we're no, we, we we're not. We can't do that. But now it's legal to bribe them. So all of these multi-billion dollar companies, multi-billion dollar people bull, can easily bribe these officials, who, most of them don't mean this offensively, but come from countries that are very poor. So a billion here, a hundred million. There might be enough to convince them, okay, you know what? We can take a hundred thousand people, we can take 250,000 people, and that'll free up the land for these US developers to go in and turn it into, you know, sin City. I think that's what this is all about.

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States will “take over” Gaza and rebuild it in the aftermath of Israel’s war against Hamas.

The president’s comments came during a joint news conference at the White House with visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump, calling the Gaza Strip “a symbol of death and destruction for so many decades” and “an unlucky place for a long time,” said the area “should not go through a process of rebuilding and occupation by the same people that have really stood there and fought for it … and lived a miserable existence there.” Instead, the president called on “countries of interest with humanitarian hearts” to build “various domains that will ultimately be occupied by the 1.8 million Palestinians living in Gaza.”

Last month, the Biden administration, with assistance from the Trump transition team, helped secure an ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that has involved the exchange of hostages and prisoners on both sides. Gazans began returning to the devastated territory in late January.

The president said that the “only reason” Palestinians want to return to Gaza is because “they have no alternative.”

Trump said the U.S. will “be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous, unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site,” level the destroyed buildings and create economic development in the area. When asked who he envisions living in Gaza after it is rebuilt, Trump said, “the world's people,” including Palestinians.

Very few are able to afford to stay in the spanking new five star hotel with restaurants and cafes overlooking the beach, the first of its kind in the Gaza Strip.
Boasting 222 rooms with sea views and flat screen televisions, the eight storey al-Mashtal hotel remains almost empty.
Construction of the $47 million hotel began in 1998 when locals were optimistic about the area's future.
Today lack of tourists and the effects of Hamas controlled Gaza, have led the hotel management to open a restricted number of rooms in the building to save on maintenance costs.
The rooms that are available are mainly booked by local couples on their honeymoon or a handful of international officials visiting the Gaza Strip.
Local women are unable to swim in the pool and the hotel is barred from selling alcohol banned by Hamas in accordance with Islamic tradition.
With thousands of Gazans living below the poverty line being able to afford to stay in such a luxury hotel remains a dream for many.

JERUSALEM, Israel – It's an important day for the future of Israel.

The United Nations Security Council is expected to vote on President Donald Trump's International Stabilization Plan for Gaza. It comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin attempts to introduce his own plan. And in Jerusalem, Jews and Christians gathered to honor Charlie Kirk.

Hamas issued a statement ahead of the U.N. vote, saying any disarmament of the terror group violates their "right to resistance" and Palestinian sovereignty."

Over the weekend, Putin called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to the Kremlin, the two talked about the Gaza ceasefire and Putin's counter-proposal to the Trump administration's International Stabilization Plan.

STORYLINE:
Israeli airstrikes targeted Gaza City on Wednesday, striking in close proximity to a hotel commonly occupied by international aid organizations and media.

The strikes forced many to take refuge inside the building.

Israel hammered neighborhood after neighborhood on Wednesday in the tiny coastal enclave in retaliation for the deadly mass incursion by Hamas militants.

The country has vowed an unprecedented offensive against the Islamic militant group ruling Gaza after its fighters broke through the border fence and stormed into the country’s south, gunning down hundreds of Israelis in their homes, on the streets and at an outdoor music festival.

They dragged an estimated 150 people – soldiers, men, women, children and the elderly – into captivity in Gaza.

As Palestinians crowded into U.N. schools and a shrinking number of safe neighborhoods, humanitarian groups pleaded for the creation of corridors to get aid into Gaza, warning that hospitals overwhelmed with wounded people were running out of supplies.

Israel has stopped entry of food, fuel and medicine into Gaza, and the sole remaining access from Egypt was shut down Tuesday after airstrikes hit near the border crossing.

The war, which has already claimed at least 2,100 lives on both sides, is expected to escalate.

On March 27th, 2002, a Hamas suicide bomber detonated his explosives in the dining room of the Park Hotel during a Passover Seder. Over 250 guests were gathered in the room, and the terror attack killed 30 people and injured 140 more. The hotel's security staff had not stopped the bomber because he was dressed as a woman and wore a dress, makeup, and a blonde wig. Underneath his dress, the terrorist was wearing a belt of explosives laced with shrapnel. The attack was devastating for the Jewish families which had come to celebrate, and ten years later, JN1 interviewed the victims' relatives.

Corinne Hamami is now a manager at the Park Hotel where she lost her husband, Amiram Hamami, in the bombing. Her reserved demeanor hides the fact that this place holds horrifying memories. Ami was the manager on duty at the hotel during the Seder, and the couple's six children were all at the hotel with their father. Corinne found all of her children were safe after the explosion, but Ami was found unconscious and severely injured in the dining room. He died two days later from shrapnel wounds.

Dalia Karim also lost loved ones in the bombing. Her mother Dvora and her father Michael both died in the attack. Dalia had wanted to join her parents for the Seder, but changed plans at the last minute to have dinner with her fiancé. When she heard of the bombing, she rushed from one hospital to the next hoping to find her parents, but at 5:00 AM, she was called from the morgue to identify the bodies. She collapsed when she saw their faces, and those images still haunt her today. She says she tries to think of good times instead -- about a couple from Iran who embraced Netanya's community, but the psychological consequences have been severe.

After a wave of similar attacks, Marc Belzberg and his wife Chantal established One Family, a non-profit group which seeks to provide victims with medical treatment, counseling, vocational training, living assistance, and children's camps. Over the past ten years, One Family has raised 35 million USD to care for victims. One of their social workers, Batia Weinberg, cares for Dalia Karim. She calls and visits Dalia regularly and even helped her find a job. And Corinne Hamami says the children's camps have given her kids an important place to talk about their trauma and hardship.

Dalia and Corinne have each found ways to remember the ones they lost. For ten years, Dalia has kept a candle burning for each parent. She is also moving forward with her life, and she is now very active in her parents' community in Netanya. Corinne has continued her husband's work to keep the Park Hotel open. The dining room has been rebuilt, and she created a memorial in the hotel lobby in memory of Ami. With the support of their communities, both women have been able to reclaim a sense of normality in their lives after such terrible tragedy.

Over 40 protestors were arrested at a demonstration outside the Trump Hotel in New York City. The protest, led by the Jewish American group IfNotNow, demanded the White House pressure Israel to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza. Journalists were told to evacuate their hotel by the Israeli military before a ground operation got under way, according to the BBC's Paul Wood in Gaza.

He saw an "unprecedented level of bombardment coming from the scene accompanied by several salvos of rockets being fired form parts of Gaza, then a sustained barrage of tracer fire."
