The recently opened Capella Sydney sees a historic sandstone building in the heart of Sydney’s resurgent Sandstone Precinct reimagined as a luxurious and exclusive world-class hotel. Designed by Make Architects, the hotel includes 192 generous guestrooms along with a range of amenities and dining destinations; each space thoughtfully preserving the architectural heritage of the building.

The transformation of the 1915 Department of Education building into its current incarnation as Capella Sydney represents the culmination of a seven-year quest to bring a truly world-class luxury accommodation offering to Sydney’s Sandstone Precinct.

Make Architects collaborated with Melbourne and Madrid-based interior designers BAR Studio for the hotel interiors, including the luxurious and exclusive common spaces and restaurant areas, allowing the food and beverage options to adopt an identity of their own. This design dream team also included Melbourne-based stylist Simone Haag, who curated a layer of intriguing objects that add to the sense of grandeur experienced by all who pierce the threshold of the building’s sandstone walls.

Developing a defined narrative between old and new was integral to the architectural transformation of the luxurious and exclusive building. Through each considered intervention, the design team strived to not only maintain but celebrate a building whose very function helped to form Sydney into the city it is today. With hand-carved details and its Edwardian baroque-style façade, Capella Sydney is the living embodiment of the past and present colliding. This ethos of heritage renewal was a key driving factor for the Capella Hotel Group.

The Capella Hotel Group’s desire to create a truly memorable, luxurious and exclusive experience for guests extends beyond the realms of design and is exemplified in all aspects of the hotel, from unique dining experiences curated by the Bentley Group to the selection of staff members fully committed to the overall vision for the building.

A luxurious and exclusive hotel fused with intriguing architectural interventions, engaging art installations and inimitable dining experiences, Capella Sydney expands the definition of luxury. Much like the area in which it resides, the accommodation offering represents a new dawn for Sydney’s hospitality scene whilst celebrating the historical beauty of the harbour city.

Positive points:

+ Mobile to TV pairing worked
+ Nice bath with separate shower 
+ Big room
+ Coffee machine in room (but not Nespresso)
+ Iron in room
+ Safe in room
+ Full minibar in room (with Toblerone)
+ Bathrobe in room 

Negative points:

- The decoration of the room seemed a bit outdated
- Some of the furniture seemed to be chipped
- The separation between the room and the toilet was too transparent (for a romantic couple)
- Spa didn't have a jacuzzi 
- Spa use was 15 Euro extra (not mentioned when booking)

In Tallinn I stayed in 5 hotels:
Hilton Tallinn Park
Swissotel
Radisson Collection
Telegraaf
Mercure

In my personal opinion the Hilton had the best Spa and the Radisson Collection had the best breakfast.

What are the pros and cons

Olympic Lagoon Resort Ayia Napa is one of the best hotels in Ayia Napa. The resort provides almost all types of entertainment for family holidays and operates on an all-inclusive system. Here you will find the kind of vacation that cannot be found everywhere in Cyprus. A lazy river flows through the large and green territory of the hotel like in water parks, children will be delighted with water attractions and swimming pools. In the evening, the hotel provides shows for children and adults, of a very high level, perhaps the best in Cyprus. If you compare the price with other hotels in Ayia Napa on an all-inclusive system, the price of Olympic Lagoon Resort is only 10-20% more expensive. This is not much, considering the level of the hotel.

The hotel is not located on the seashore, 5 minutes walk to the beach, but this is OK. It can be crowded and noisy on the territory during the day, as well as in the evening in restaurants. You should book the a la carte restaurants asap on arrival day o next day morning else it will be very difficult.
We do not recommend booking rooms facing the parking, because immediately behind the parking there is a highway that makes noise both day and night. Weddings are often held at the hotel – this can also cause discomfort to some guests. In a word, the hotel is more suitable for outdoor activities with children. If you are vacationing without children, you'd better choose other hotels of the same chain.

While the world has adopted various measures to combat covd, Chinese authorities are beginning to eject Africans from their homes and hotels over claims that they were importing the v!rus into the country.


Africans in Guangdong and Fujian Province mostly affected are lamenting the move by the Chinese, fearing that they could be exposed to the v!rus.

Africans in China, who confirmed the ejection to our correspondent, said the government was employing force to eject foreigners from their homes.

They said, “There are claims that blacks are the ones now importing covd into China.

“Foreigners and particularly black people are currently not allowed to access public places including malls, restaurants and hospitals.

“They have landlords to evict them, they chase them out of hotels and make them go through all sorts because of covid.”

To quell the ejections, a meeting was held between the African community leaders in Guangzhou and the government
